ECOS 2026 – The 39th International Conference on Efficiency, Cost, Optimization, Simulation and Environmental Impact of Energy Systems

Background

Already in the 1970s, outstanding scientists from the USA and Europe, have initiated some gatherings in the format of workshops and later of Conferences aiming to identify new scientific approaches and to formalize the consequences of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics as engineering methods and tools for modelling, analyzing and optimizating energy conversion processes and systems from exploitation of the raw materials to the final use of energy.

Over the years, the series of Conferences, have been extended to address the general concerns in the society regarding the scarcity of resources, environmental impact and degradation of the habitat as well as the proposed approaches at Global scale including the concepts of sustainable development, Millenium Goals, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Climate Change mitigation and adaptation. The series of ECOS conferences that started in 1987 belongs to this group of conferences.

At present, we are living in an era of unprecedented Transformations, Global Turbulence and Grand Challenges that is marked by the outstanding achievements in frontier research in science, the development of cutting-edge transformational technologies and pushing forward in the exploration of the Outer Space. Human civilization is reaching of very high standards of living, but also, is facing the extension of enormous divides between the North and the South or East and West of the Planet, the irreparable degradation of the environment and acceleration of Climate Change.

Scope

The scope of ECOS 2026 is to evaluate the achievements in energy engineering in addressing complex energy systems, multiscale and multiphysics modelling, analysis and optimization, digitalization and data driven science, quantum computing and engineering and other advanced and innovative approaches for the purpose of efficient use of energy and materials resources, The topics cover the entire lifecycle from the exploitation of the raw materials to the final use, with an emphasis on minimization of environmental impact, assuring the science-based evidence for business administration, economics, social sciences, ecology, health and human security.

The event offers a framework for free scientific debates facilitating the exchange of ideas, best practices and knowledge and to provide science-based evidence for decision makers to identify the proper policies for addressing the implementation of SDGs in general and SDG 7 in special.

Objectives

The objectives of ECOS 2026 are as follows:

  • To establish a clearinghouse for information concerning multiple aspects of energy and energy research;
  • To provide resources and information about cutting edge research in the area of energy, including policy, resources and its environmental impact;
  • To facilitate global communication and exchange of information between energy scholars;
  • To disseminate such knowledge, information and materials to the public, energy planners, energy providers and industry decision-makers.

ECOS 2026 Format

The event shall be organized as a complex event starting from Sunday, June 28th, 2026 and ending on Friday, July 3rd, 2026.
